A mother's horrifying self-pampering trip

So, the other day, I decided to treat myself to something as I didn't really had the time to pamper myself since the baby arrived.

During my off day, I left the baby at the baby sitter and took the LRT to KLCC just to find something for myself.

Once I arrived in KLCC, I was spoilt for choice. NARS, Bobbi Brown, MAC and Sephora was calling out my name.

I visited each and every of those stores painstakingly and checked out their latest collection of makeup. I loved some of the products that I tried on myself but I still walked out of the stores empty-handed.

Something was bugging me. I could not bring myself to buy anything. Mind you, I was a beauty blogger who love her makeup to bits.

After having my favourite pasta at Pizza Milano in KLCC food court for lunch, I finally know what was bugging me.

I didn't want to pamper myself with yet another concealer or foundation. I wanted something that was worth my money. Something better than makeup that disappears when I was wash my face. I decided that I wanted a good skincare product.

When your skin is naturally so amazing and flawless, you don't need any makeup!

And I was totally amazed that I could think that way. Maybe motherhood had changed me. I don't know.

So, I walked in to the Body Shop outlet in KLCC, with a single thing in my mind. A good night cream.

Because one of my beauty gurus, Bobbi Brown, through her many staff, taught me that a good night cream is essential for good skin as skin repairs itself at night.

A Body Shop staff immediately approached me and asked if there is anything that I particularly wanted.

"Yes, I want a night cream."

"Oh, I can recommend a good one to you," he said.

He picked out an orange container labelled 'Oils of Life'.

He spread some of the cream onto my hand and it felt silky smooth. I was sold. (Yup, I am gullible like that.)

"Ok, I'll take that."

"Miss, your eyes look dry. Don't you wear eye cream?", he asked.

"Well, I used to. Now I don't," I said honestly.

"Then, I must recommend this lovely eye cream from the same line," he said and spread some on my eyes.

I liked the cooling feel of the eye cream.

"Ok, I'll take that too, thanks!" I said. (Told you guys, I am easy like that.)

So, the staff walked to the cashier machine, but suddenly stopped his stride.

"Miss, your skin is super smooth and all. But if you can use a serum with the night cream, you will have the best skin of your life," he said and produced a serum bottle from the same line.

"This is pure oil, cold pressed from the seeds of all the fruits and plants that you can think of. Imagine people going to that extend to take the oil. Its precious and it is super good for you. You won't need any makeup at all if your skin is amazing and this serum will give you just that," he finished.

"Hmm, ok..I'll take that too," I said.

"Ok miss. But one moment please. If you are using all this superb products but your base is not there, what does it mean? Nothing at all! You need a great toner to purify your skin and to prep it so it can absorb all this amazing stuff."

And yet again, he produced a bottle of toner from the same line.

"This also contains essential oil and it smells amazing," he said while shoving the bottle under my nose so I could take a sniff.

It smelled like oranges. I thought I might as well get the toner because I am getting the rest of the products anyway. So, I said ok, add it on.

As he walked to the cashier machine, he asked me if I wanted to add on body washes which is currently on a buy one free one promo.

"No thanks!."

"But you would miss this promotion."

"I already have the body washes at home."

"Ok then."

So, he finally billed me.

I took out my debit card and firmly told myself that its ok, I can afford to pay RM200 for my skincare regime. It is important after all.

"So, the total is RM645 please," he said with a smile.

I stood still in shock.

"RM645? OMG...that is way, way beyond my budget," I thought to myself.

So, what you think I did?

A. Walk out of the store
B. Stand in shock while staring back at the staff.
C. Tell the truth that it is way beyond my budget.
D. None of the above.

Yup, the answer is D. I handed him my card, albeit reluctantly, so he can swipe it. (What? It is freaking KLCC ok? I could not afford to make a scene.)

I walked out with a big brown bag that was loaded with my stuff and the staff also added in some 'free' samples for me to try on.

So, my self-pampering journey made me RM645 poorer.

I put the products to good use once I reached home and two weeks later, my skin started to glow naturally. Yup, the products were super good and worked its magic on me.

Its worth it! After all, I don't pamper myself often.
